Purpose:
This boundary is used in the management of watershed-based source protection plans, and provides the best science-based definition available where possible. Polygons are based on primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary watershed boundaries with possible modifications by Source Protection Authorities and Municipalities where better terrain modeling data and expert local knowledge exists. A Source Protection Area (SPA) may be made up of multiple individual polygons each with its own landform, such as island, Watershed, Lake/River. The SPAGEN data class is available to the public for general use and cartographic applications. This cartographic version of the product maintains the resolution of the original SPPB data set, however the boundaries have been smoothed to create a more visually appealing product.
Supplemental Information:
This data set (SPAGEN) directly supports Regulation 284/07 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) and is available to the public for general mapping and GIS applications. Under O.Reg 284/07 section 3, the Minister shall ensure that the boundary data and maps that show the approximate boundaries are available to the public on the Internet. Legislated or Legal Authority for Collection: Regulation 284/07 of the Clean Water Act. Additional Time Period Information: Version 2 - Update of North Bay-Mattawa and Quinte Regions, and some structural changes to the data class including some new lookup tables and attributing changes. Please see the latest SPAGEN SNIF Report on the LIO website for more information. Version 1 - Generalization of this layer is based on the CWA-regulated scientific version of the dataset, known as the Source Protection Planning Boundary, dated January 4th, 2008.
