Process step:
Date: 1997 (change 1 of 6) The UTM zone index was mathematically generated by ESRI using ARC/INFO® software. The zone definitions were obtained from "An Album of Map Projections: A Working Manual" by John P. Snyder (1987: USGS Professional Paper 1395. U.S. Government Printing Office: Washington, D.C.). Data sources produced in this process: ADOL
Process step:
Date: 20000809 (change 2 of 6) The following steps were performed by ESRI: Downloaded the ArcView GIS Shapefile, utm_zone.zip, from http://www.esri.com/data/online/esri/datapacks/utm_zone.html and extracted it. Chose UTM Areas (utm_ply.shp) and added attributes East_value, Cm_value, and West_value from UTM zones (zone.shp). Added filler values to attributes of the polygons in the north and south polar areas. Removed unneeded attributes. Created ArcGIS® layer file (.lyr). Created projection file (.prj). Ran ArcView GIS Avenue™ request ExportClean, and created spatial indices. Converted the data set to SDC. Data sources used in this process: ADOL
Process step:
Date: 20040307 (change 3 of 6) The following steps were performed by ESRI: Dissolved out the central meridian of each UTM zone/row cell, reducing the number of polygons by about half.
Process step:
Date: 20050215 (change 4 of 6) The following steps were performed by ESRI: The EAST_VALUE and WEST_VALUE attributes and their values were reversed, so the attribute names were swapped instead of the values.
Process step:
Date: 20060328 (change 5 of 6) The following steps were performed by ESRI: Corrected the east, north, and south geographic extents. Converted the data set to SDC.
Process step:
Date: 20080426 (change 6 of 6) The following steps were performed by ESRI: Adjusted UTM grid cells to fit two newly sized areas in Norway and Svalbard. The three original cells (32X, 34X, and 36X) no longer exist, having been absorbed by their adjacent cells in the row. The cell 32V absorbed the eastern half of cell 31V. Edited attributes WEST_VALUE, CM_VALUE, and EAST_VALUE for the affected grid cells. Converted the data set to SDC. Created ArcGIS® layer file (.lyr), projection file (.prj), and spatial indices.
